Houthis Launch More Drones At Israel, Slam Arab Nations From Abandoning Gaza

The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen announced another drone attack on Israel, slamming Arab and Islamic nations for not supporting the Gaza Strip.

The announcement came just a few hours after the Israeli security cabinet approved a plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “take control” Gaza City, threatening an unprecedented escalation of the war, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 60,000 Palestinians.

In a statement, Houthi spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree said that the group launched three suicide drones at Ben Gurion Airport near the city of Tel Aviv in central Israel as well as at what he called “vital targets” near the cities of Beersheba and Ashkelon in the south of the country.

“To the sons of our Arab and Islamic nation, we say: If you do not stand with your brothers in Palestine today, as they suffer from starvation witnessed by the entire world, when will you? When will you stand up for your religion, your morals, your humanity, and your natural disposition?,” the spokesman asked.

“We are facing a crime of genocide that history will certainly not forget. History will certainly not forget the positions of the complicit and negligent, as well as the positions of the conspirators who participated in carrying out this crime,” he added.

Saree went on to “all companies dealing with the ports of occupied Palestine,” vowing that their ships “will be targeted regardless of their destination” if they don’t cease all dealings with Israel.

During the day, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced the interception of two drones “launched from the east” by the Israeli Air Force. Both drones were clearly among those launched from Yemen by the Houthis. No casualties or damage was reported by Hebrew media.

Since March 18, when the IDF resumed its offensive against Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis have launched around 67 ballistic missiles and more than 20 suicide drones at targets in Israel. The group also sank two ships directly linked to Israel in the Red Sea.

Israeli attempts to deter the Houthis by targeting civilian infrastructure in areas controlled by the group in Yemen have failed, miserably.

Now, the IDF is reported to be preparing a major, broad-based operation against the Houthis with the aim of neutralizing the threat posed by the group for an extended period. The operation could include assassinations, and even ground raids. Still, it is very doubtful that the Houthis will be deterred.

What the Houthis should worry about is a surprise ground offensive by forces loyal to Yemen’s internationally-recognized government with support from the United States, or even Israel. Such a scenario has been already reported, although it is less likely.

All in all, the upcoming Israeli escalation in Gaza is guaranteed to translate to more escalation in Yemen, in a way or another.
