Russians Enter Seversk: Ukraine’s Next Big Loss in Donbass?

The strategic Donbass city of Seversk now faces imminent danger as Russian troops approached its outskirts, advancing from multiple directions and tightening their grip on this key Ukrainian stronghold. Backed by overwhelming artillery support and precision drone strikes, Russian infantry units are making steady progress in their campaign to isolate and eventually capture the city.

Russian forces have intensified their offensive along Seversk’s northern, eastern and southeastern approaches, gradually pushing Ukrainian defenders back from critical positions. The broader strategic objective is clear. Russian commanders aim to establish a semi-circular front around the city before completing its almost full encirclement. This tactic mirrors previous successful operations that saw Ukrainian fortresses systematically cut off and destroyed.

Recent battlefield developments indicate significant Russian progress. Northeast of Seversk, assault units have broken through Ukrainian defenses near Chubarovsky lake, securing a foothold on the city’s outskirts. Meanwhile, other Russian forces have straightened the frontline between Serebryanka and Seversk, eliminating potential vulnerabilities while inching closer to key transport routes.

Reports from the front indicate Russian troops have already penetrated Seversk’s northeastern districts, engaging in intense urban combat near Poselkovy lake. While Ukrainian units continue to resist fiercely, their position grows more precarious with each passing day as Russian forces constantly eliminate strongpoints and observation posts.

Ukrainian defenders are desperately clinging to two vital supply arteries that keep Seversk’s garrison functioning. The T0513 highway, connecting Seversk to Krasny Liman and Slovyansk, has come under increasing Russian fire control. Just three kilometers north of the city, a crucial rail junction now finds itself within range of Russian artillery, its strategic importance making it a prime target for advancing forces.

The situation around Seversk increasingly resembles the final stages of other protracted battles in the Donbass region. As Russian forces continue their deliberate advance, the city’s defenders face the grim prospect of being completely cut off from reinforcements and supplies. With Russian artillery and drone operators maintaining constant pressure on Ukrainian positions, the fall of Seversk appears increasingly inevitable.
