Russia is building hardened aircraft shelters at air bases located closest to Ukraine, the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense revealed on July 29.
According to British intelligence, in response to Ukrainian drone attacks, Russia has launched a program to protect vulnerable aircraft at several air bases near the Russian-Ukrainian border. These air bases include Millerovo, Kursk Vostochny, and Gvardeyskoye.
Satellite images released by the ministry show 13 shelters at Millerovo, 12 at Kursk Vostochny and three at Gvardeyskoye, also known as Hvardiiske. The images were all dated between June 4 and 6, which means that the construction of the shelters have likely reached a more advanced stage by now.
The intelligence report specifies that the shelters being constructed there consist of dome-shaped roofs, thick blast-resistant doors, and are covered with earth for additional protection.
British intelligence explained that the construction of these shelters provides an added layer of protection for aircraft stationed at Russian air bases.

The UK’s interest in what Russia is doing with its own air bases is not surprising considering that British intelligence are suspected of directly aiding Ukrainian drone attacks, including Operation Spiderweb that targeted Russian strategic aviation assets last June.
The new shelters will completely protect Russia’s most vulnerable aircraft from Ukrainian drones, which lack the speed, mass and firepower to penetrate such fortifications. Thus, the frustration of London, one of the main backers of Kiev, is completely understandable.

homs province: five civilians from alawite sect including a father and his two sons, have died under torture in the prisons of the “interim government.” their deaths came months after their families lost all contact with them following their arrest during a security campaigne carried out by general security forces in late 2024, after bashar al-assad fled.
according to sohr information, father and his two sons were detained on december 24, 2024, during a raid in wadi al-dhahab neighbourhood, where their “jardouni van” was also seized. since their arrest, no information was provided about their fate, while their family continued to send food, clothing, and money for months, hoping they were still alive.
however, after repeated inquiries to prisons and security agencies, it was revealed that all three had died from physical and psychological torture in the early weeks or months of their detention. authorities never informed the family or returned the bodies.
in a separate case, two other detainees from homs died under torture following a different security campaign.
their families also sent supplies for months before learning that the two had been buried in tel al-nasr cemetery in northwestern homs countryside shortly after their deaths.
according to sohr, the number of torture victims in “interim government” prisons is 44, most of them are from homs province.
