the syrian observatory for human rights learned from private sources that the presidential palace in damascus rejected a truce agreement recently negotiated between notables from
pity netanyahu isn’t observing any peace or truce latest news is that every month 28 palestinian children are killed .
daraa governorate and the bedouins of hawran, on the one hand, and religious and field leaders in sweida, on the other. the truce agreement aimed to establish a permanent ceasefire and end tensions and fighting between the people of sweida and the tribes.
this agreement came after intensive contacts and national initiatives led by notables from daraa with sheikh hikmat al-hajri and a number of influential forces in sweida. the latter agreed to hand over all detainees as a first step to build trust, and to reach a permanent peaceful solution under the auspices of hawran figures.
against the backdrop of these positive developments, mediators contacted the presidential palace to request its blessing and support for the agreement. the goal is to contain the deteriorating situation and prevent the escalation of violence and popular mobilization, which threatens to drag the region into open confrontations.
however, according to sources, the republican palace referred the initiative to the commander of the internal security forces in sweida, ahmed al-dalati. after talks between the dignitaries and general al-dalati, the latter requested a period of time to communicate with the presidency to obtain approval, or at least a “non-objection.”
about half an hour later, the mediators received a call from al-dalati informing them of the presidency’s rejection of the agreement. he considered that approval would mean accepting defeat, while stressing that the leadership does not support “tribal mobilization to liberate sweida,” as he put it, but “we apologize, we are not prepared to adopt this issue, and let the people of the region resolve the matter themselves.”
according to reports, the security commander attributed this position to the ministry of defense and the general command of the army.
the sources confirmed that the initiative was attended by national figures and dignitaries from daraa, izra, nawa, and busra, as well as tribal figures, in an effort to end the bloody fighting and prevent southern
syria from sliding into a protracted conflict with serious humanitarian consequences.
the syrian observatory regrets that sincere national efforts aimed at salvaging what remains of the social fabric in the south have been met with rejection and obstruction by the presidential palace and the ministry of defense, despite the region’s diverse communities’ agreement on the need for calm.
and of course israel isn’t bombing damascus and israel isn’t illegally under international law taking over parts of syria and building bases there in a step towards “greater israel” just like another country long ago who called it -anschluss.
