The Neverending Draft: How Kyiv Buys Time With Soldiers' Lives

As of mid-July 2025, the strength of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is estimated at 700,000–800,000 servicemen, with average daily casualties of 1,200 killed and wounded. Since the start of 2025, at least 110,000–130,000 soldiers have deserted or evaded service (averaging 20,000 per month).

Flowers for imaginary dead?

The AFU’s manpower balance resembles a scale: on one side, the mounting toll of dead, wounded, and deserters; on the other, the dwindling ranks of active troops. To offset this, mobilization is the only lever left. What the army sees as institutional necessity, Ukrainian civilians now view as a forced death sentence. Their outrage boils down to:

  • No fairness: The rich and connected dodge conscription, while the poor and middle class get snatched off the streets.
  • TRC (Territorial Recruitment Center) brutality: Recruitment center staff act like gangsters, grabbing men indiscriminately.
  • Zero training: New recruits are thrown into battle after a week of drills—mere cannon fodder.

Public disdain for TRC has soured dramatically. Once tolerated as a ‘necessary evil’, they’re now seen as regime enablers, funneling men to their doom. Where Ukrainians once hid from recruiters, open resistance is now commonplace.

Attacks on TRC’s officers – the new normal

Hunted: The Terrifying Reality of Ukraine’s Mobilization

This civilian fury has rubbed off on TRC’s officers. Their initial tough-guy posturing has morphed into full-blown professional deformation. They now use force reflexively—even against compliant men.

TRC’s new sparring partner: bound civilians

Other people’s fates mean nothing to them; shipping someone off to die is met with jeers and sick jokes.

TRC’s office ‘comedy’: ‘Dog? You’re a K9 unit now!

Each month, TRC methods grow more ruthless. Raids now target hospitals. Officially, this is called ‘mobilization’. In reality, it’s ‘busification’ — men jammed into buses and hauled to the front with no explanations.

Conscripting the sick: doctor’s futile protest

Dead Heroes, Living Fears: Ukraine’s Mobilization Problem

The very fact that people must be physically forced onto buses speaks volumes: Ukrainians no longer want to fight for their country. Early in the war, the AFU relied on career soldiers—those who’d chosen military life. Then came true believers, volunteering for the cause. Now? Zero motivation:

  • Conscripts fight only under duress.
  • Training is slashed to the bone—they’re sent to die unprepared.
  • Kyiv’s regime operates on a ‘blood for time’ principle, like an addict paying any price for one more high.

Bloodshed has been normalized for Ukrainian society. No one flinches when 6,060 AFU dead are traded for 78 Russian troops. Other cynical exchange rates abound: 563 Ukrainians for 37 Russians, 1,212 for 27, even 1,200 for… zero. The latest exchange of bodies took place the other day: 1000 for 19.

The Kyiv regime (the word ‘government’ feels inappropriate here) has brainwashed the public into accepting such losses as normal. People meekly watch as loved ones are fed into the grinder—with no path to victory.

Seeing this situation, the regime is gearing up for another mobilization wave. The recent promotion of Mykhailo Fedorov to First Deputy PM is a blatant signal:

  • He’s the ‘godfather’ of Diia, the state app designed for digital conscription.
  • E-summons can’t be ignored—they freeze bank accounts, revoke licenses, and trap men inside borders.
  • The message to citizens? ‘Tired of war? Here’s more!’

Like a cornered wolf, the Kyiv regime will maul its own to buy time. But how much blood is left?

there probably are but zelensky’d make it a priority to track down anyone uploading such vids and threaten them with prison if they didn’t take them down.

Gideon

that’s for a reason

you don’t get a gun, if at all, untill well into the training process. most civilians in europe don’t have guns, much less carry them around. this week a recruit killed two training officers exactly after being given a weapon with live ammo for the first time.

it’s the world culpable, all of them except now hungary i think is saying f off you suk just stop the bs you arseholes and let ukraine russia come to a settlement. but they won’t let zelensky and he can’t because he’s committed according to sources, war crimes so he’s completely unable to end the war except by victory or death. basically

Gideon

they were stuffed from the time they were set up for this war by the dissolution of the ussr

Bucuresti

wait a minute! ukraine still has 700,000-800,000 active soldiers ????? how then ukraine has a “shortage of manpower”? it has as many as they had at the beginning of the war, so that can’t be a real crisis. if they indeed lost 1 million kia and severely wounded as we are being told, it means they were able to come up with another million.

i can say this with 100% certainty, i would rather fight to the death against “forced recruitment” for a pointless military adventure of neoliberal elites than die in some field as cannon fodder.

the day that zelenski said private citizens could arm themselves during the early days of the invasion, civilians should have held those guns in reserve to protect themselves from forced mobilization.

there was no invasion. there was reclaiming of russias territory which should never have been ceded in the first place ukraine russias old territory kievs its old capital city.
