In the morning of February 6, Ukrainian armed formations launched a large-scale attack on positions of the Russian Armed Forces in the direction of Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Ulanok in Kursk Region of the Russian Federation.
According to media reports, the attack involved up to 60 pieces of military equipment supported by infantry. In the following clashes, pro-Kyiv units were able to reach the line of defense of Russian units and achieve a temporary tactical success. However, later, the first wave of AFU attacks was repelled. Ukrainian units suffered significant casualties in manpower and reportedly lost over two dozens pieces of military equipment.

Later, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on the situation that as of 14:00 local time the morning AFU attack in the direction was repelled:
“For this purpose, the AFU used up to two mechanised battalions on armoured vehicles. Assault groups of the enemy launched several waves of attacks in the designated direction.
The Sever Group of Forces’ units detected the enemy in time, and the Group’s units supported by aviation inflicted fire damage on the AFU assault groups.
As of 14:00, the attacks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been repelled and the settlements are under the control of the Russian troops.
The AFU losses amounted to six tanks, three counterobstacle vehicles, three infantry fighting vehicles, and 14 armoured fighting vehicles. The neutralisation of the AFU units is in progress.
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise AFU formations on the territory of Kursk region.”
Media reports claim that UAF infantry failed to entrench themselves in the area of the attack after the initial success while UAF mechanized units were not able to develop the advance further. After the first attack resulted in no notable effect a part of Ukrainian units retreated, while another one was disorganized. Reports suggest that up to two hundreds Ukrainian personnel may have been still hiding in areas close to Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Ulanok and soon may try to reconnect with the main AFU forces or participate in a second wave of attacks.
The situation in the area remains tense. There are still chances of the resumption of large-scale clashes in the region. At the same time, the attack of AFU in the direction of Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Ulanok may have been an attempt to distract attention of the Russian Armed Forces from other parts of the frontline in Kursk Region, where Ukrainian units are experiencing major difficulties.
The Russian Defense Ministry statement also provided details regarding the AFU losses in recent clashes of Kursk Region:
“Operational-Tactical and Army aviation and artillery inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the enemy near Basovka, Belovody, Veselovka, Zhuravka, Ivolzhanskoye, Iskriskovshchina, Mirlogi, Miropolye, Mogritsa, Sadki, Stetskovka, Yunakovka, and Yablonovka in Sumy region.
Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to up to 205 troops, three tanks, one armoured personnel carrier, 15 armoured fighting vehicles, and 17 motor vehicles were neutralised.
Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk direction, the AFU losses amounted to more than 57,860 troops, 337 tanks, 244 infantry fighting vehicles, 194 armoured personnel carriers, 1,759 armoured fighting vehicles, 1,844 motor vehicles, 409 artillery guns, 45 MLRS launchers, including 13 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 17 anti-aircraft missile launchers, eight transport-loading vehicles, 106 EW stations, 15 counter-battery warfare radars, five air defence radars, 33 units of engineering and other materiel, including 14 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, nine armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.”

good that the title says attack and not offensive. but i want to be fair and give afu credit for getting all the troops and equipment 10 km inside russia to fight for 2 little villages, some farmlands, forests and lakes. from a tactical perspective i think nato is protecting the supply lines but will not succeed🤫
people start panicking because the ukies manage to scrape together a couple of weak battalions and advance a couple of miles into snow covered empty space before being stopped and given a good spanking. during ww2, german forces continued to carry out major operations and counter attacks throughout 1945 right up to the end of the war. some of these were even successful. there was a large scale successful counterattack at bautzen just a few days before hitler shot himself.
it didn’t make any difference. april 1945 was the worst month of the war for us army casualties. in the us civil war, the confederate army fought and won a large battle after the war was officially over. you have to see things in perspective, instead of wetting your knickers and running around like a headless chicken every time the ukies manage to mount some minor local operation or launch a few drones into russia. in the general scheme of things it’s not that important.
