The Defense Department is developing plans to withdraw all United States troops from Syria, NBC News reported on February 5, citing two American defense officials.
The officials said that the Pentagon began working on plans for a full withdrawal in 30, 60 or 90 days after President Donald Trump and officials close to him recently expressed interest in leaving the war-torn country.
A week earlier a reporter asked Trump at an Oval Office media event about reports he had informed the Israeli government about pulling U.S. troops out of Syria.
“I don’t know who said that. I mean, I don’t know who said that, but we’ll make a determination on that. We’re not getting, we’re not involved in Syria,” Trump replied. “Syria is its own mess. They got enough messes over there. They don’t need us to be involved with everyone.”
More than 2,000 U.S. troops are currently deployed in northeastern Syria as well as in the area of al-Tanf in the southeast of the country.
The troops are supposedly present in the country to counter ISIS and help the U.S. main proxy, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), guard tens of thousands of the terrorist group’s detainees.
The SDF has been facing increasing pressure from Turkey, which considers the group to be the Syrian branch of the terrorist-designated Kurdistan Workers’ Party.
Following the fall of the Assad regime, the group began talks with the country’s transnational government which was formed by the now dissolved Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham. Ahamd al-Sharaa, who led the offensive that brought down the Assad regime last December, is now the president of the country.
Al-Sharaa has pledged to conduct a political transition that includes an inclusive government and elections, which could take up to four or five years to hold.
The government has reportedly made multiple power-sharing proposals to the SDF. However, the group is yet to accept any.
While many in the U.S. oppose a withdrawal from Syria as they fear that ISIS could resurface or that the SDF will be attacked by Turkey, the decision will be made by Trump in the end.

and who will now stop the goddamn wahhabi gang from attacking iraq? the monster of all monsters (putin) will of course support them in this attack on iraq. why did bashar assad have to kill hariri? why was prince bassel assad able to get along well with hariri? probably because he despised russia and its shady dealings.
