UPDATED: As of 19:30 local time, the attack on the Ukrainian Armed Forces towards Berdin was repelled and the involved group of forces was defeated. According to reports, over 200 troops of the Kyiv regime and 35 pieces of military equipment, including at least 2 battle tanks, were eliminated in the clashes in this direction.
There are also reports that Russian forces counter-attacked in the areas of Russkoye Porechnoye and Mahnovka. Units of the Russian Armed Forces were reportedly able to enter and recapture parts of these areas from the UAF.

On January 6, forces of the Kyiv regime continued attempts to develop its new advance on the Russian region of Kursk.
The new attack took place from the direction of the settlement of Cherkasskoye Porechnoye towards Berdin and at the first stage involved at least 6 armored fighting vehicles. Later, pro-Kyiv forces made a second attempt to attack in Berdin and a new round of clashes erupted there.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces also began to accumulate troops and equipment near the settlement of Russkoye Porechnoye for attack in the area.

According to the Russian side, as of now the attempt of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through toards Berdin was thwarted by the decisive actions of the Sever (North) Group of Forces’ units supported by aviation and artillery.
“The AFU losses amounted to more than 150 troops, four tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, 16 armoured fighting vehicles, and one counterobstacle vehicle,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Russian drone operators discovered and destroyed a T-72 tank of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk border area. The video shows direct hits of combat drones on the Ukrainian Armed Forces battle tank and a fire.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, during the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 485 troops, 10 battle tanks, 7 infantry fighting vehicles, 5 armoured personnel carriers, 39 armoured fighting vehicles, 1 counterobstacle vehicle, 11 motor vehicles, 1 artillery gun, 7 mortars, and 1 electronic warfare station in Kursk direction. Four AFU servicemen surrendered to Russian forces.
“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 49,500 troops, 283 tanks, 216 infantry fighting vehicles, 158 armoured personnel carriers, 1,500 armoured fighting vehicles, 1,418 motor vehicles, 341 artillery guns, 44 MLRS launchers, including 13 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 16 anti-aircraft missile launchers, eight transport-loading vehicles, 89 EW stations, 13 counter-battery warfare radars, four air defence radars, 29 units of engineering and other materiel, including 15 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, seven armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The Russian Armed Forces also carry out strikes on the rear of the group of forces of the Kyiv regime involved in clashes in Kursk.
“In Kharkov direction, units of the Sever Group of Forces defeated units of two territorial defence brigades close to Volchansk and Liptsy (Kharkov region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 70 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer. One ammunition depot was wiped out,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Despite the initial failure around Berdin, the Ukrainian Armed Forces seem to be determined to send even more troops and equipment in an attempt to develop the new offensive in the Kursk border area. At least formal (if not real) success in Kursk is crucial for the Kyiv regime to demonstrate its foreign sponsors that it remains a useful tool in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
