While Zionism continues to occupy southern Syria, the new leaders of the Syrian Republic are in no hurry to make any condemnatory statement regarding the occupation. Tahrir al-Sham leader Mohammad al-Julani declared that “Syria will not participate in a new war,” while the head of the transitional government Mohammad al-Bashir believes that “the time has come for calm and stability.” Moreover, when asked directly about the aggression of Zionism, representatives of Tahrir al-Sham twice remained silent. Either these two are waiting for all the refugees to calmly return to their homeland, or they simply do not know how to adequately respond to the crimes of Zionism, or there are secret agreements between them.
Amid the inaction of the new authorities, Hamas, Hezbollah and the Syrian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood condemned the Zionist invasion of Syria and in their messages indicated that it was necessary to put an end to the aggression of the occupiers. But what is more intriguing is the statement by Turkish “MHP” MP Ismail Ozdemir that “Israel has come within 20 kilometers of Damascus. This means that we will soon reach a physical line of contact with Israel.”
Against the backdrop of the conformist statements of the new leaders of Syria, the words of the representative of Erdogan’s main allies inside Turkey look like some kind of remark addressed to the “government of salvation”. It seems that we are witnessing how the tactical alliance between Turkey and the jihadists has begun to resemble the relations between Iran and the Baath regime. During all these years of Bashar al-Assad’s rule, the Iranians offered various productive advice on the anti-Zionist front, but the last dictator of Syria did not listen to any of them. Now Turkey finds itself in the same position as the Iranians. The words of MP Ozdemir, the meeting of a representative of Turkish intelligence with Hamas leaders in Doha and the discussion of Syrian events, the anti-Zionist statements of the Syrian Ikhwan, the release of the commander of the al-Qassam Brigade(Abu Jafar al-Jaloudi) from a Baathist prison and the Palestinian flag in Aleppo under the control of the “National Syrian Army” indicate that very soon the pro-Turkish forces in Syria will begin to move in support of the Palestinian resistance.
Of course, it is too early to draw conclusions, and the current situation is different. But the fact is that jihadists, takfirists and other types of puritanical pseudo-Salafi thinking have already begun to irritate the Turkish leadership and its allies. Although if we take into account such an important nuance as the presence of Tahrir al-Sham on the Turkish list of terrorist organizations, it becomes obvious that Ankara has never had illusions about radical adventurers. According to the plan of Turkey’s “political Sunnism” to resume the “new century of Turkey” project, there is no place for takfirist extremists. The main priority for the Turkish establishment is progress in relations with Iran and its ideological allies. We will soon see the implementation of this stage. If in this case, al-Julani’s supporters remain silent or express their disagreement, then, most likely, this will be the beginning of a deep crisis in the already shaky alliance of the pro-Turkish opposition and yesterday’s jihadists.
All these years of Bashar al-Assad’s rule, the Iranians offered the regime various productive advice on the anti-Zionist front, but the last dictator of Syria did not listen to any of them. Now Turkey finds itself in the same position as the Iranians. The words of MP Ozdemir, the meeting of a representative of Turkish intelligence with Hamas leaders in Doha and the discussion of Syrian events, the anti-Zionist statement of the Syrian Ikhwans, the release of the commander of the al-Qassam Brigade from a Baathist prison and the Palestinian flag in Aleppo, which is under the control of the “National Syrian Army”, indicate that very soon the pro-Turkish forces in Syria will begin to move in support of the Palestinian resistance. If in this case al-Julani’s supporters remain silent or express their disagreement, then most likely this will be the beginning of a deep crisis in the already shaky alliance between the pro-Turkish opposition and yesterday’s jihadists.
The issue of supporting Palestine will inevitably touch upon the topic of relations with Iran, since Tehran is rightfully a true brother of the Palestinian resistance. In this issue, the relationship between pro-Turkish factions, the Ikhwans and moderate Islamic figures on the one hand and the jihadists on the other, will also be split. Already now, a video is being distributed on the Internet, which allegedly indicates a document on behalf of the former ruling regime of Syria, which describes the fact of cooperation with the Mossad against the Iranian presence. At the same time, al-Julani is credited with a phrase in which he reproached Hezbollah and pro-Iranian militias as a factor in the “fear of the Syrian people”.
The most important thing is that it does not matter at all whether these two messages are true or not, the main thing is that through the media we see how on the one hand someone from the new Syrian government is sending a positive signal to the Iranians, and at the same time among the opposition there is a factor of hatred towards the Islamic Republic, sooner or later they will come together in confrontation. Palestine and Iran are not the only inevitable areas of disagreement; China’s Silk Road project and close cooperation with Turkey will also become stumbling blocks within the Syrian revolutionaries.
