Hezbollah confirmed on November 2 that it is in possession of Iranian-made Fateh-110 tactical ballistic missiles, revealing that missiles of this type were used in a recent attack on a military base in central Israel.
The attack, which was carried out earlier in the day, targeted Tsarfil base, which hosts multiple military training colleges, close to Ben Gurion Airport in the outskirts of the city of Tel Aviv. The Israeli military said that some ten missiles were fired during the attack, with most being intercepted. However, it admitted an impact at Ben Gurion.
Israel accused both Iran and Syria of supplying Hezbollah with Fateh-110 missiles on multiple occasions over the past decade.
While the group showcased what appears to be locally-made copies of the Fateh-110 before, like the Qadir-1/2 and the miniature Jihad-2, this is the first time it has confirmed its possession of the Iranian-made missile.
Hezbollah’s Military Media released a video showing the launch of at least two Fateh-110 missiles from what appears to be an unground site at Tsarfil base. Multiple heavy artillery rockets were also fired during the attack to distract Israeli air defenses.
Another video released by the group revealed the specifications of the specific version provided by Iran. According to the video, the solid-fueled missile has a range of 300 kilometers, a warhead weighing 50 kg and a Circular error of less than ten meters.
The unveiling of the missile came on the Arba’in of Hezbollah late Secretary-General Hasan Nasrallah, the day forty after death in an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. By not changing the codename of the missile, the group and its main backer, Iran, clearly meant to send a message to Israel.
The confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah first broke out after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, with Hezbollah launching attacks in support of the Palestinian enclave. Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon starting from September 17.
On September 30, the Israeli military launched a limited ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Since then, the group has escalated its strikes on Israel to an unprecedented level.
