Hezbollah issued an evacuation order to some 25 settlements in northern Israel on October 26, mimicking how the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) displaced hundreds of thousands of Lebanese from their homes in recent weeks.
The IDF had been issuing evacuation orders for areas within Beirut’s Southern Suburb, Southern Lebanon, the Bekaa, and even more recently a huge portion of the city of Tyre, before bombing civilian homes under the pretext that they were being used by Hezbollah.
From its side, Hezbollah stated in a warning video that settlements in northern Israel had become military outposts where the IDF was stationed to launch attacks on Lebanon.
The group declared these settlements legitimate military targets for its aerial and missile forces, calling on Israelis to “evacuate immediately.”
“You are requested to evacuate immediately. Your settlements have become a place of deployment and settlement for the enemy military forces attacking Lebanon. As a result, they have become legitimate military targets for the air and missile forces of the Islamic Resistance,” the warning read.
The settlements included in the evacuation order are: Kiryat Shmona, Yesud HaMa’ala, Ayelet HaShahar, Hatzor HaGlilit, Karmeil, Maalot Tarshiha, Even Menachem, Nahariya, Rosh Pina, Shamir, Shaal, Meron, Kapri, Abirim, Dalton, Neve Ziv, Katzrin, Kfar Hanania, Manot, Beit HaEmek, Kfar Vradim, Harashim, Birya, Kidmat Tsvi, and Bar Yohai.
The warning came a few hours after the IDF Home Front Command announced that it was easing restrictions in several areas in northern Israel.
Hebrew media also reported in recent days that the IDF was preparing to wrap up its limited ground operation against Hezbollah, although the reports suggested that aerial attacks on Lebanon would continue as before.
It’s worth noting that Hezbollah has escalated its attacks on Israel since the IDF launched its ground operations in southern Lebanon on September 30.
The confrontation has so far resulted in 31 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights as well as the deaths of at least 55 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, more than 2,653 people have been killed, including more than 500 members of Hezbollah.
