The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on several formations of Kiev forces in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on October 24.
The ministry said in its daily briefing that Ukraine’s 22nd, 41st, 47th, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 112th and 129th territorial defense brigades took losses near the settlements of Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Nizhny Klin, Novoivanovka, Plyokhovo, and Sverdlikovo.
In addition, the Sever Group of Forces repelled three Ukrainian counter-attacks close to the settlements of Nizhny Klin, Novoivanovka, and Plyokhovo, according to the ministry, which noted that three attempts by Kiev forces to launch counter-attacks near the settlements of Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, and Lyubimovka were also thwarted.
“The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, and one American-made M113 armored personnel carrier. Eight AFU servicemen surrendered,” the ministry said.
The ministry also announced that a series of Russia air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 22nd, 41st, 47th, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, as well as the 103rd, 112th, and 129th territorial defense brigades.
The gatherings were targeted close to the settlements of Gogolevka, Daryino, Zaoleshenka, Zeleny Shlyakh, Kruglenkoye, Kubatkin, Lebedevka, Loknya, Martynovka, Mikhaylovka, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Oleshnya, Plyokhovo, Pravda, Sverdlikovo, Tolsty Lug, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
Other strikes hit the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk, the ministry said, adding that the strikes targeted the reserves of the 41st, 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 1004th Security and Service Brigade, 103rd Territorial Defence Brigade, and 1st National Guard Brigade near the settlements of Belovody, Velikaya Pisarevka, Zhuravka, Malushino, Novonikolayevka, Pavlovka, and Popovka.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to up to 280 troops and nine units of hardware, including one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, one U.S.-made M113 armored personnel carrier, six armored fighting vehicles, as well as two artillery guns, two motor vehicles, and one electronic warfare station. Eight AFU servicemen surrendered,” the ministry details in its briefing.
Separately, Russian media released several videos from the Kursk directions showing recent strikes and some of Kiev forces’ latest losses.
Kiev forces launched an attack from Sumy into Kursk last August. The Russian military is currently conducting a counter-attack. So far, nearly half of the settlements initially occupied by Ukrainian troops have been liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 26,222 troops, 176 tanks, 93 infantry fighting vehicles, 104 armored personnel carriers, 995 armored fighting vehicles, 683 motor vehicles, 226 artillery guns, 38 launchers, including nine American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, nine air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles, 56 electronic warfare stations, 11 counter-battery radars, three aerial radars, 22 engineering vehicles, including 13 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle and three armored recovery vehicle.
