At least three Israeli attacks targeted Syria on October 5, leaving a number of people, including foreign nationals, dead or wounded.
A drone strike first struck a vehicle in the vicinity of the central city of Homs, along the highway leading to the neighboring governorate of Hama.
The strike killed a Syrian soldier and wounded at least three other people. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that two of the wounded were foreigners. However, this is yet to be confirmed.
Later, the London-based pro-opposition monitoring group reported that Israeli tanks shelled the hills of Darbal and Tanura in the southwestern countryside of Damascus, right on the front with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Sputnik also said that Israeli drones struck the vicinity of the towns of Beit Jan and Hadr which are located in the nearby northern al-Quneitra countryside. No casualties were reported.
Another drone strike hit the town of Hawsh al-Sayyid Ali in the southwestern Homs countryside later in the day. The town is located right on the border with Lebanon. Again, there were no reports of any casualties.
In addition, there were reports by both the SOHR and Sputnik of drone strikes on the Ayyash military depots close to the eastern city of Deir Ezzor. However, it is still unclear if the attack was carried out by Israel or the United States-led coalition.
There was also no comment from the Israeli military, which does not usually claim responsibility for its attacks against Syria.
Israel escalated its attacks on Syria significantly since the outbreak of the war in the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip last October, targeting Syrian military sites as well as personnel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and other factions of the so-called Axis of Resistance.
Earlier this week, the Israeli military announced that it will work to prevent the supply of any weapons from Iran to Hezbollah through the Lebanese-Syrian border.
Recent Israeli strikes on Syria claimed the lives of dozens of people. Despite this, the war-torn country has so far refrained from responding, likely to avoid a dangerous confrontation.
