A foreign activist with American citizenship was shot and killed by Israeli troops while taking part in a protest against settlers in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian media reported on September 6.
The incident took place in the town of Beita, which is located some 13 kilometers to the southeast of Nablus. The slain activist was identified as 26-year-old Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, an American woman originally from Turkey.
Footage posted to social media showed Eygi in a West Bank hospital with what appears to be a very severe gun wound in her head.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has not yet commented on the incident. The military ramped up its operations in the West Bank in the last few weeks, killing at least 36 Palestinians and arresting more than 40 others who are suspected of “terrorism”.
The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 40,000 Palestinians, led to an increase of violence in the West Bank, with the U.S. showing support to IDF bloody operations in both regions despite some domestic opposition.
According to the Palestinian Authority health ministry, more than 670 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the start of the war. More than 5,000 others have been arrested. During the same period, 35 people, including Israeli soldiers and police officers, have been killed in attacks in Israel and the West Bank.
The U.S. The Department of State is yet to address the killing of Eygi. No major change of policy is to be expected however as Washington tolerated several similar incidents in the past. The latest of which was the murder of Al Jazeera American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh two years ago.
