A series of Israeli strikes hit on August 23 several sites in Syria’s central region, the official Syrian Arab News Agency reported, citing a military official.
“At approximately 7:35 pm [local time], the Israeli enemy launched an air attack from the direction of northern Lebanon, targeting a number of sites in the central region,” the unnamed official said, adding that seven civilians were wounded.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said in a report that the strikes targeted “makeshift petrol stations affiliated to Hezbollah in the Homs countryside, and struck weapons depots belonging to the group as well as two Syrian army sites in the Hama countryside.”
The strikes killed three Iran-backed fighters and wounded at least ten others, according to the London-based pro-opposition monitoring group.
The SOHR, which is run by a single person and has unclear founding, has been accused in the past of inflating losses caused by Israeli strikes on Syria.
Israel has significantly escalated its attacks on Syria since the outbreak of the war in the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip, targeting Syrian military sites as well as personnel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Lebanese Hezbollah and other factions of the so-called Axis of Resistance.
Four Syrian troops were wounded earlier this month when a series of Israeli strikes hit several military sites in central Syria.
Since the start of the war on Gaza, Israeli strikes on Syria have claimed the lives of more than 21 civilians. Still, the war-torn country has so far refrained from directly responding.
