Iraqi Resistance Says It Attacked Israel’s Haifa With Cruise Missile (Video)

The Arqab cruise missile as seen in a photo previously released by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iran-backed armed factions, announced on July 19 that it had fired an Arqab land-attack cruise missile at a “military target” in the northern Israeli port city of Haifa.

The attack was carried out “in response to the massacres committed by the usurping entity [Israel] against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly” in the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip, the group said in a statement, vowing its operations against Israel will continue.

The IRI also released video footage showing the launch of the Arqab missile, which is said to be a derivative of the Iranian-made Paveh. The missile is powered by a turbo-jet engine and has a range of at least 1,650 kilometers.

On the day of the attack, the Israeli Defense Forces announced that its fighter jets intercepted an aerial target that was heading toward Israel from the eastern direction, likely originating from Iraq. The target may have been the cruise missile launched by the IRI.

The IRI’s missile attack on Haifa coincided with a drone strike on Tel Aviv city that was launched from Yemen by the Houthis (Ansar Allah), who are also backed by Iran. The strike claimed the life of a man and left at least eight others wounded.

The IRI began launching attacks against Israel as well as against United States forces in Iraq and neighboring Syria on October 17 in response to the Israeli war on Gaza -which broke out just ten days earlier- and Washington’s unwavering support for it.

The group suspended attacks against U.S. forces last February after the death of three American troops in a drone strike on a base in Jordan, reportedly upon a request from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Nevertheless, it escalated attacks against Israel starting from March.

Israel has not openly responded to the IRI’s attacks yet. However, it was blamed for several strikes that targeted Iran-backed armed factions along the Syrian-Iraqi border and near the Syrian capital, Damascus, after the start of the war in Gaza. Iraqi fighters were killed in some of these strikes.

this is a significant and troubling development. the escalation of conflicts in the middle east has far-reaching implications for regional and global stability. it’s essential to verify such claims through reliable sources and consider the potential consequences of such actions on innocent civilians and international relations. dialogue and diplomatic efforts should be prioritized to prevent further violence and promote peace in the region.

well said.

…without the “diplomatic” us solution of 2004, iraq would still be sunni today and would separate shiite iran from the remaining shiite territory.

only the usa with its “diplomatic” solution created this huge coherent territory for the shiites!

but the problem in the region is still israel! the genie that israel let out of the bottle in gaza, they will never get back into it again…

Teresa999

@shotgps. i agree. your comment full of truth ! usa attacked iraq (saddam led iraq) and the winner was iran. that’s the strange result, but it’s the truth. had usa strenghtend saddam instead of bombing him, the current so-called “iran-problem” would be much much smaller or likely not even exist. but yes due to usraeli megalomaniac behaviour and stupidity these hook-nosed scum and their dogs have shot themselves into the leg, big time !

one cruise missile is definitely not enough to pass through modern anti-air defense, 10-12 missiles have some chances to hit a target. launching just one or 2-3 missiles is waste of resources, if it’s not hyper-sonic.

that would depend on the missile. did the houthis not just hit tel aviv with a single missile? no sirens, no interceptors, just an impact. human error is named as the culprit, disregarding the autonomous ability of the israeli system. with simpler missiles, the strategy you mention is necessary. the missile the houthi’s used was a new version, jaffa, the characteristics unknown. of course the strategy of using up israeli interceptors is a prime goal.

zman

the growing lack of available replacements is part of the strategy. in any large scale or long term confrontation, this will be critical. what is interesting is why israeli systems did not react to the jaffa, which reportedly hit the target desired, purportedly a meeting of israeli and us military. has there been a technological leap that renders them ‘invisible’, some sort of ew or discovery of a flaw they exploited?

Антон

it was uav-kamikaze from yemen, though not a big difference. new type of strike systems has more chances to pass through defense, because its signature is unknown for aad. iraqi resistance used iranian cruise missile, it’s more complicated and expensive (turbojet engine isn’t cheap), but it’s not hard to intercept them. that’s why new version of h-101 has flares to disrupt the guidance of infrared and thermal seekers of anti-air missiles.

Piipii

you are wrong, why? because these missiles cost very little to the resources that israel uses to combat them. in the long run, israel is bleeding money enormously and its ability to maintain defenses is weakening. so do supporters of israel. it doesn’t matter in a missile strike like this whether it hits or not.

zionists have huge rear — eu and us, so it’s unlikely to exhaust their resources with single strikes at apartment building. massive strikes on power plants could be more effective, there are just few, one of them gives almost a half of electricity. just imagine if this plant is destroyed. the rural reich has no electricity for 10 hours a day after lost of half of power generation.
