The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen announced on July 12 that they had targeted the merchant vessel Chrysalis twice in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

In a statement, Houthi military spokesman Brigade General Yahya Sarea said that the vessel was targeted due to the fact that its owning company violated the group’s decision banning entry to all the ports of “occupied Palestine.”

Chrysalis was targeted twice, first in the Red Sea and then in Bab al-Mandab, using several suitable ballistic and naval missiles as well as drones, according to the spokesman.

Brig. Gen. Sarea also stressed that the Houthis will not cease their operations “until the Israeli aggression stops and the siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is lifted.”

The spokesman went on to hail the Yemeni people for their unprecedented massive pro-Palestine rallies across all Yemeni governorates and districts, and for reaffirming their continued military support for the Palestinian Resistance.

In addition, he affirmed the Houthis’ full preparedness to respond to “hostile actions” by the Saudi regime “acting on American directives in service of the Israeli enemy.”

From its side, the United States Central Command said that its forces destroyed on July 12 three drones in a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen.

“It was determined these UAVs [Unmanned Aerial Vehicles] presented an imminent threat to U.S., coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region,” the command said in a statement. “These actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure.”

Yemen’s Al-Masirah TV, which is run by the Houthis, confirmed that three “American-British strikes” hit the Red Sea port city of al-Hodeidah on July 12, but didn’t report any losses.

The Houthis have attacked dozens of vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the U.S. and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea since November in response to the Israeli war and siege on Gaza.

During the same period, the group launched dozens of drones and missiles at the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat and shot down six American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.

Since January, the U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen in an attempt to deter the group, but to no avail.
