Reports Of Attacks On More Ships Near Yemen

A merchant vessel reported an explosion took place near it in the Red Sea on June 6 about 19 nautical miles west of the Yemeni port city of Mokha, British security firm Ambrey reported.

The vessel described fit the target profile of the Houthis (Ansar Allah), who have attacked ships off the Yemeni coast for several months, Ambrey said in an advisory notice, adding that the vessel was en route from Europe to the United Arab Emirates and was not transmitting an Automatic Identification System signal at the time.

Separately, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a detachment of the Royal Navy, said it had been informed of two explosions near a vessel 27 miles south of Mokha.

There was no damage reported, all crew were safe and the vessel was proceeding to its next port of call, the UKMTO said in an advisory notice.

It was unclear whether the incidents reported by Ambrey and UKMTO were the same. Furthermore, the Houthis have not announced any new attack in the Red Sea yet.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement on June 7 that its forces successfully destroyed eight drones and two uncrewed surface vessels launched by the Houthis in the Red Sea over the past 24 hours.

In the same statement, the command said that a coalition ship also engaged one Houthi drone over the Red Sea.

It also reported that the Houthis launched one anti-ship ballistic missile from Yemen over the Red Sea, noting that “there were no injuries or damage reported by U.S., coalition, or commercial ships.”

“It was determined these systems presented an imminent threat to U.S., coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region,” CENTCOM said. “This action was taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S., coalition, and merchant vessels.”

The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have attacked dozens of vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the U.S. and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean since last November in response to the Israeli war and siege on the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip.

In addition, the group launched dozens of drones and missiles at the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat and shot down six American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.

Since January, the U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen in an attempt to deter the group and degrade its offensive capabilities, but to no avail.

Recently, the group expanded its operations to include the Mediterranean Sea and began launching joint attacks with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which is also backed by Iran.

“there was no damage reported, all crew were safe and the vessel was proceeding to its next port of call, ”

houthi marksmanship would appear to be dismal. if such reports are accurate, they will be an embarrassment for the axis of resistance, rather than an asset. such failings will provide cover for western violence, at least in the western media.
