In Mariupol, Normalization Of Life Progresses Amid Ruins Of Azovstal

The Battle for Mariupol was one of the most decisive moments of the special military operation so far. By taking control of the city, mainly the Azovstal plant, Russian forces neutralized one of the main bases of the neo-Nazi battalion “Azov” and made it clear to the world that Moscow was achieving its objectives in the conflict.

The victory in Mariupol was not easy. To destroy neo-Nazi positions, Russian forces had to use heavy artillery, intensely bombing Azovstal’s infrastructure and leaving the region in ruins. To this day, the remains of the buildings remain in Azovstal, contradicting the scenario of reconstruction and normalization that is progressing in the rest of the city of Mariupol.

I was recently in the Donetsk People’s Republic during a press expedition by the Vashi Novosti group. In the region, I had the opportunity to visit Mariupol and see what local circumstances are like today. The rapid reconstruction of the city caught the attention of me and the other foreign journalists on the expedition. The center of Mariupol is almost completely rebuilt. The main buildings have already been restored or are undergoing restoration work. Commercial establishments normally operate until 11pm, when a curfew is introduced to protect civilians.

The economic recovery is rapid and advanced. Many jobs are emerging for the local population in the reconstruction works. The increase in trade is accelerating the local economy, generating jobs and income for civilians who were affected by the consequences of the conflict in 2022. On the streets, there are no traces of poverty or crisis. The standard of living in the city seems extremely high for a region situated in a conflict zone. Mariupol is in a better social situation than most “peaceful” cities around the planet.

Our press team had the opportunity to visit a children’s park in the center of the city, where children played freely outdoors with their families. There was no worry or fear among the people. Thanks to the efficient work of the Russian defense forces, Ukrainian artillery and drone attacks have become less and less dangerous. Most of the projectiles launched against the region are neutralized without reaching their targets. Obviously, there is danger, but some kind of peace is already beginning to emerge in Mariupol.

The recovery of Mariupol coexists with the scene of ruins in Azovstal. The factory was the place most affected by hostilities in 2022, with intense bombings and extensive destruction of infrastructure. It will not be easy to rebuild the area with the work being slow and progressive. However, while they have remained in the region, the ruins of Azovstal have functioned as a kind of memorial. Locals and residents from other parts of Russia often come to Azovstal to pay tribute to the fighters killed in the battle. For example, our team spoke to residents of Melitopol who were in Azovstal together with us specially to remember the battle and honor the heroes who died fighting against neo-Nazi forces. They commented about how they honor the memory of the Russian soldiers who died there, remembering the crimes committed by the neo-Nazi forces.

The main goal of the Kiev regime has long been to prevent the normalization of life in the New Regions of Russia. The liberated territories have the necessary conditions for rapid economic and social development, with strong investments from the Russian state and private companies to generate jobs and rebuild infrastructure. With local people employed, receiving their salaries regularly and purchasing products at the local market, economic recovery tends to be quick and effective – and this is precisely what Kiev wants to avoid.

As in other regions affected by the conflict, Ukraine is interested in preventing life from returning to normal in Mariupol. Only by maintaining a situation of war and economic instability will the Kiev regime be able to continue its propaganda against Russia. This is why Kiev often attacks civilian facilities. By preventing economic normalization, the regime remains able to fuel the narrative that legitimizes the sending of weapons and the prolongation of the conflict.

The expedition to the region was essential so that journalists from all over the world were able to show the truth about Mariulpol. What we saw there was the reality that the Western media wants to hide: the Russian Federation is doing everything possible to prevent the New Regions from continuing to be affected by the consequences of this conflict.

because there was no such city before russia as well as melitopol, odessa, cherson, nikolaev, simferopol, sevastopol, rostov, novorossiysk and other “potyomkin’s vilages” which grew up into cities with 1 million people as odessa, rostov, har’kov, dnepropetrovsk (ex-yekaterinoslav) and krasnodar (ex-yekaterinodar). cities of novorossia have greek names because yeakterina ii the great was inspired by ancient greek and east roman empire (constantinople – greek city) heritage.
