United States forces in Iraq and Syria have been attacked with rockets and drones some 89 times in recent weeks, Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder said on December 12.

“We are tracking approximately 89 attacks at this time,” Ryder said during a press briefing, noting that he was not aware of any injuries.

The attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria began on October 17 in response to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which broke out ten days earlier. Most of the attacks have been claimed by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iranian-backed armed factions.

The IRI announced on December 12 that it had fired rockets at two U.S. bases in the eastern Syria governorate of Deir Ezzor, one in the Conoco gas plant and the other in al-Omar oil fields. As usual, the group said that the attacks were carried out in response to Israeli “crimes” against Palestinains in Gaza.

The U.S. military has already launched several retaliatory strikes against armed factions affiliated with the IRI, including Kata’ib Hezbollah and Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, in Syria and Iraq. However, the group remains undeterred.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, warned Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, during a recent visit to the region of “harsh consequences” if Iraq doesn’t act to stop attacks on U.S. forces.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken also told al-Sudani after a rocket attack that targeted the U.S. embassy in Baghdad last week that Washington expects Iraqi officials to take more action to prevent such attacks, and believes they have the capability to do so.

U.S. retaliatory strikes and threats will not likely stop the attacks, which are meant to pressure Washington to reconsider its unconditional support for the Israeli war on Gaza.

to je pekné, ale spokojný budeme môcť byť až vtedy keď okupačné vojská usa opustia irak a sýriu!!! inak tam hrozí neustále, vypuknutie nového konfliktu.
