On December 13, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that its warplanes and tanks carried out a series of strikes against targets in Syria and Lebanon in response to a rocket attack that targeted northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights.

In Syria, the strikes hit Syrian military infrastructure, including an observation post, and in Lebanon, a Hezbollah rocket launcher was targeted, according to the IDF.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for several rocket and missile attacks from Lebanon today. Meanwhile three rockets were also fired from Syria at the Golan Heights.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that three Syrian military posts between the governorates of al-Qunitra and Daraa were hit. The London-based monitoring group also reported that Syrian air defenses engaged IDF drones over the Golan Heights.

After the strikes, the IDF dropped leaflets over al-Qunitra and Daraa calling recent rocket attacks on the Golan Heights “terrorist operations” and warning civilians living there.

“To the residents of southern Syria, the Syrian regime continues to abandon you and is failing again to prevent terrorist operations from your lands. Launching rockets harms the local population first. Events like this harm the restoration of your normal life after the period of civil war. You must stop this terrorism from your lands, and that is In order to preserve your safety and not to harm you,” one of the leaflets reads.

Since the outbreak of the war in the Palestinian Gaza Strip, the IDF has been clashing with Hezbollah on the border with Lebanon. It also escalated strikes on Syria.

Last week, a Syrian pro-government commander and three Lebanese fighters from Hezbollah were killed when an Israeli drone targeted their vehicle in al-Quneitra. The strike was an example of how the IDF is beginning to deal with both Syria and Lebanon as a single front.

The escalation on Israel’s northern fronts is a direct result of the war in Gaza. Nevertheless, it may not end with the war there.

let’s face it, the isreali apartheid regime doesn’t need any excuses to bomb syria and lebanon, or any other neighbour for that matter. regime paranoia is directly proportional to its crimes. once palestine is ethnic cleansed and settled, i wonder which neighbour will be next? i’m guessing one without the military support of russia.
