On October 5, the President of Abkhazia declared that a new permanent of the Russian Navy would be established in the country. The agreement has already been signed between Russia and Abkhazia. The deployment of the Russian Navy in the Ochamchir seaport is provided for by the agreement between Abkhazia and Russia on a joint Russian military base on the territory of the republic.

The new base will be located in the Ochachmir district. No other details have been announced yet.

According to the President of Abkhazia, the agreement was signed on September 30, when the republic celebrated its Independence Day and the 30th anniversary of the Victory Day in the Georgian-Abkhaz war of 1992-1993. The agreement was signed on board of small Russian rocket ship which entered the Abkhazian port in honor of Independence Day.

“The cooperation of the two countries in the military-technical sphere is aimed at mutual improvement of defense capability,” the President said.

The new base will allow the Russian Navy to expand its might in the Black Sea.

Russia recognized the sovereignty of Abkhazia in 2008. On the territory of the republic there is the 7th Krasnodar, Order of the Red Banner, Order of Kutuzov and Order of the Red Star Military Base in Gadaut.

Plans to establish a Russian navy base in Ochamchire were first reported 14 years ago, in the summer of 2009. The commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy then estimated the duration of construction at two to three years.

“Nothing big will be based there,” he said, clarifying that the base would host some separate tactical groups.

The Russian General Staff later reported about its plans to start work on deepening the bottom in the same year. However, the plans did not become the reality. Now, the President of Abkhazia assured that the base would be opened in the nearest future.

it is the best decision if they are not make massive operations in the odessa region or agains nato bases. russia has plently bases in the area, safer than sebastopol for keeping fleet ready for the assaults after the destruction of the zombie remanents of kiev. including the new one in absakhia sonce one week👍
