Russia has fire control over the one road in / out Bakhmut and will blast anything that moves, without frontal assaults, until the Ukrainians run out of food / ammo. This is what they did at Mariupol, so I laugh at the NATO analysts who insist the Ukrainians are inflicting massive casualties.
Time is on Russia’s side as long as they do not get caught by a counter-attack.
An ill prepared UAF counter attack which looks to be the case has caused shortages across other fronts of manpower and equipment. In essence this counter attack is a major action that either makes or breaks their war efforts. If it fails it will severely hamper all operations without direct foreign intervention. If it is successful, it will buy more time and delay Russiam operations for some time, but is something the Russians will be able to recover from. All this assuming the Russians aren’t prepared, which we have seen they are. Equipment, aircrafts, manpower and missiles have all been prepared
