The Russian military has destroyed one of few Roshel Senator armoured personnel carrier (APC) Canada supplied to Ukraine last year.
On January 21, footage showing the Canadian-made 4×4 APC on fire surfaced online. The vehicle was reportedly destroyed on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic in a Russian artillery strike.
The Senator, which can carry up to 12 troops, is based on the Ford F-550 pickup chasses chassis and powered by a Ford 6.7L Power Stroke diesel with 330 hp. Its armour can withstand light firearms and protect against hand grenades and similar small explosive devices.
The APC can be armed with a 7,62 mm machine gun, a heavier 12,7 mm gun or even a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher.
Canada supplied Kiev forces with eight Senator APCs last year, around two months after the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. The vehicles were put in service with the State Border Service of country.
Earlier this week, Canadian Defence Minister Anita Anand announced the supply of 200 Senator APCs to Ukraine, as part of its latest military assistance package.
Canada has provided Ukraine with billions of dollars in aid, including over C$1 billion in military supplies. Now the country is stepping up the supply of armored vehicles to Ukraine in line with efforts led by the United States to prepare Kiev forces for a possible counter-offensive ahead of spring.
