Kurdish Forces Kill Or Wound Five Turkish-Backed Militants In Northeastern Syria

On November 9, two Turkish-backed militants were killed and three others were wounded in Syria’s northeastern region in an attack by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, SDF fighters fired an anti-tank guided missile at the militants who were deployed on the Arisha front near the town of Tell Tamer in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah.

One of the slain militants was a member of the Hamzah Division, while the other was fighting in the ranks of the Sultan Murad Division.

The deadly missile attack took place amid intense shelling by the Turkish military and its proxies on SDF positions around Tell Tamer. A position of the Syrian Arab Army was reportedly hit. As a result, one soldier was lightly wounded.

Syrian troops are present in the area to monitor a ceasefire between Turkish forces and the SDF that was brokered by Russia more than three years ago.

The attack also came just a couple of days after two Turkish drone strikes targeted the town of al-Qamishli in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah. The strikes claimed the lives of an SDF commander and his driver and wounded three civilians.

Turkey’s attempts to deter the SDF with its fire power have apparently failed. The Kurdish-led group is still launching attacks against the Turkish military and its proxies in northern and northeastern Syria as much as before. This could eventually push Ankara to launch yet another invasion into the war-torn country.
