The Russian-backed Syrian security operation against ISIS cells in the town of Jasim in the western Daraa countryside is still ongoing.

On October 22, local fighters taking part in the operation blew up three hideouts of ISIS cells in the town. The first and second hideouts were a farm and a house owned by the terrorist group’s local leader Abu Abdul Rahman al-Iraqi, who was killed five days ago, while the third one was the house of the group’s local security commander Abu Zaid Sbeina, who is still on the run.

The Syrian military, intelligence and several Russian-backed groups of local fighters launched the security operation on October 14. More than 20 terrorists of ISIS have been eliminated, so far

The operation was launched in response to the October 13 bus bombing in the Syrian capital, Damascus, which claimed the lives of 18 soldiers. The terrorist attack was orchestrated by ISIS cells in Jasim.

Jasim has been under the de-facto control of ISIS for a while. The terrorist group’s cells built a large network of hideouts in the town.

The ongoing security operation in Jasim is the most recent in a series of blows administered to ISIS in southern Syria this year. The operation will not end until all of the terrorist group’s cells in Jasim are neutralized. This could take several more days, or even weeks.
