This enormous loss already means that Ukraine will increasingly cease functioning. But Russia doesn’t want to take out the power that is needed for the cooling systems in the nuclear power plants. Constant cooling is needed or you’d have a disaster.

The power grid won’t be overloaded because Ukraine’s load has dropped immensely since Feb 24, after some of its factories etc stopped working. That’s why its electricity exports rose. So, Ukraine simply has to stop exporting electricity and everything will be working fine in the country even with 30% or more of the grid gone.

The Dniepr flowing southwest presents a natural water defensive barrier from Nikopol to below Kherson.
