Late on October 19, a Palestinian gunman suspected of killing an Israeli soldier in East Jerusalem earlier this month was shot dead after attacking security guards near the entrance of the settlement of Ma’ale Adumim in the occupied West Bank.

Security camera footage of the attack showed the gunmen, who was identified as Udai Tamimi, exchanging fire with Israeli security guards until death. During the attack, a guard was taken to the Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem with a light wound in his hand.

Tamimi was reported the gunmen who killed Sgt. Noa Lazar and seriously wounded a security guard on October 8 at a checkpoint near the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid hailed the killing of Tamimi, whom he called a “terrorist,” promising to punish any one who harm Israeli troops or civilians.

“We will not rest until we lay our hands on every terrorist who harms Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers. We will act with an iron hand and without hesitation against terrorism,” Lapid said.

The Joint Room Of Palestinian Resistance Factions praised Tamimi, calling him in a statement a “hero” of the Palestinian resistance.

“And if Uday ascends today, in Palestine there are a thousand, thousand Udays, and whoever took the decision to attack our sanctuaries and provoke the feelings of our people in their holiest sanctities should wait for the shocking answers from our people and their fierce resistance,” the statement reads.

Tamimi attack came amid rising violence in the West Bank. Palestinian gunmen targeted Israeli troops and settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem on several occasions in the last few months. The attacks were a response to repeated Israeli security operations in Palestinian areas.

The attacks will not likely end any time soon, as Tel Aviv is still determined to use brute force to subjugate the Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
