On September 2, the Russian military intercepted another drone with military payload in the area of the Zaporozhye NPP. The device was shot down several hundred meters from the nuclear power plant, the charge did not explode.
According to the local authorities, the plant was also shelled by the artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At least four strikes hit the territory of the nuclear power plant.
In turn, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine finally confirmed strikes on the city of Energodar, where the Zaporozhye NPP is located.
“It has been confirmed that three enemy artillery systems were destroyed by precise strikes of our troops in the areas of the settlements of Kherson and Energodar,” the report says.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recognized the strikes on the Energodar area. According to the press service of the General Staff, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the area of the city where the Zaporozhye NPP is located and where specialists of the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA arrived.
The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said that six representatives of the international commission will continue to work at the Zaporozhye NPP, and two experts will remain at the power plant on a permanent basis.
The permanent mission of the IAEA will inform the head office about everything that is happening at the NPP. The international agency has already discussed the permanent mission and its composition with the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
The head of the IAEA plans to submit a report on the situation at the NPP to the agency’s board of governors early next week.
On the same day, the arrested AFU saboteur who adjusted the Ukrainian fire committed a self—explosion in the town of Tokmak in the Zaporozhye region. This was reported by a member of the military-civil administration of the region. The man blew him up with a grenade during the arrest. No one was injured.
