Syrian Buk-M2E System Shot Down Missile During Last Israel Attack On Damascus: Russian MoD

Syrian air defenses shot down one of two missiles launched by Israeli warplanes during the last attack on the western outskirts of Damascus, Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev, Deputy Head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, announced on April 15.

“On April 14, from 23:03 to 23:10, two F-16 tactical fighters of the Israeli Air Force attacked targets in the Syrian governorate of Damascus with two guided missiles from the airspace of the Golan Heights. One of the missiles was destroyed by a Russian-made Buk-M2E system of the Syrian air defense forces that was on duty,” Zhuravlev said.

According to Zhuravlev, the Israeli attack damaged a warehouse causing material losses. However, there were no casualties.

The information provided by the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria are in line with recent satellite images that showed damage at a warehouse of the Syrian Arab Army located near the town of Kafr Qouq to the north of the district of Qatana.

The UAE-based al-Arabiya TV reported that the target of the Israeli attack was a large shipment of Iranian air-defense systems, radar stations and drones.

This was the second Israeli attack on Syria this April. The first attack, which took place on April 9, targeted the outskirts of the town of Masyaf in the western Hama countryside. A research center, a weapons factory, a military base and a suspected air-defense site were hit.

Israel hopes that its repeated attacks on Syria will eventually push Iran out of the war-torn country. However, the opposite is happening. Tehran relations with Damascus are only improving.
