On December 5, ISIS’ news agency, Amaq, released photos from a recent attack by the terrorist group on the village of Khadir Jijah in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

During the attack, which took place on December 2, ISIS terrorists ambushed a unit of the Peshmerga, the Kurdish branch of the Iraqi Armed Forces, and assaulted several civilian houses in the village.

The terrorists killed nine personnel of the Peshmerga and wounded five others. Three civilians were also killed, while another sustained injures.

The deadly attack on Khadir Jijah was one of the largest operations carried out by ISIS cells in the Kurdistan Region in the last few years.

Iraq’s acting Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi promised that Iraqi government forces will respond to the attack and hold the perpetrators accountable.

“This treacherous attack will not pass without the just retribution of the terrorist criminals who committed this cowardly act,” Yehia Rasool, a military spokesman for the PM, said in a statement.

The Kurdistan Region has been always one of the safest areas in Iraq. ISIS ability to penetrate the region and conduct such a complex attack is alarming to say the least. The terrorist group has been intensifying its operations in Iraq for a while now.
