On October 30 afternoon, a large explosion rocked the entrance of the International Airport of the southern Yemeni port city of Aden, which is held by Saudi-backed forces.

Yemeni officials said that a small truck carrying petroleum products blew up at an outer gate to the airport. It is still not clear whether the incident was an attack, as suggested by several news sources.

An unmanned Yemeni official told the France-Press Agency, AFP, that twelve people were killed as a result of the explosion. Dozens others were reportedly wounded.

The situation in Aden city, the temporary home to the Saudi-backed Yemeni government, has been unstable to say the least.

On September 4, Major General Musa Mohsen al-Mashdali commander of Saudi-backed forces on al-Hazmiyah front in the central Yemeni province of al-Bayda was assassinated in the city.

Later on October 10, Agriculture Minister in the Saudi-backed Yemeni government, Salem al-Socotri, and the Governor of the southern Yemeni province of Aden, Ahmed Lamles, survived a bombing in the city center that left ten people dead or wounded.

The security situation in Aden city will not likely improve any time soon due to the never-ending tensions between the Saudi-backed Congregation for Reform, commonly known as al-Islah, and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council. Both sides have much influence in the city.
