On October 14, the towns of al-Musayfrah, al-Karak al-Sharqi and al-Sahoah in the eastern countryside of Syria’s Daraa joined the Russian-sponsored reconciliation process.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) entered the town of al-Musayfrah where it set up a reconciliation center to settle the legal status of wanted gunmen in the three towns.

Just a day earlier, the town of al-Jeezah joined the reconciliation process in the eastern countryside of Daraa. Initially, the process went as planned. Later however, some of the wanted gunmen refused to hand over their weapons. In response, the SAA sealed the town’s entrances. Local leaders called on all gunmen to hand over their weapons before the end of October 15.

The reconciliation process, which is nearing its end in the eastern countryside, saw much success in Daraa al-Balad, the southern part of Daraa city, as well as in the governorate’s western and northern countryside.

According to several news sources, the next town to join the Russian-sponsored reconciliation process will be al-Ghariyah al-Sharqiyah.

The Russian Military Police, which gained the trust of people in Daraa over the past few years, has been monitoring the process in order to prevent any violations.

Excellent initiative by the Syrian government and their allies. The path forward is peace and prosperity, not unnecessary violence fueled by foreign agitators.
