On October 10, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a combing operation in the towns of Nassib, Om Elmiathin and al-Taebah in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

The three towns joined the Russian-sponsored reconciliation process earlier this week. A reconciliation center was opened in Nassib, where dozens of wanted gunmen from the three towns have handed over their weapons and settled their legal situation.

The town of Saida joined the reconciliation process on October 10. Units of the SAA and a force of the Russian Military Police were deployed in the town.

Some of the wanted gunmen in Saida have reportedly refused to hand over their weapons and join the reconciliation process. In response, Syrian authorities brought in two buses to expel the gunmen to opposition-held areas in the country’s northern region.

Despite the setback in Saida, the towns of Kiheel and Elnaymah will reportedly join the reconciliation process in the upcoming few days.

So far, more than 5,000 gunmen have handed over their weapons and joined the Russian-sponsored reconciliation process in Daraa. The process is meant to secure and stabilize the governorate which saw a surge in violence over the last year.
