On October 5, ISIS news agency, Amaq, shared a video showing the remains of two armored vehicles of the Egyptian military which were destroyed a few weeks ago in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.
ISIS terrorists targeted the two vehicles with improvised explosive devices (IEDS) as they were passing near the town of al-Rysan to the south of Arish city.
The vehicles were completely destroyed in the attack. Nevertheless, it remains unclear how many Egyptian service members were wounded or killed.
ISIS cells in Sinai have been relying on IED attacks as a low-cost, low-risk tactic to inflict serious losses on Egyptian government forces. The military is yet to find a solution to this threat.
On October 3, ISIS terrorist targeted a large MRAP [mine resistance ambush protected] vehicle of the Egyptian military near al-Masourah checkpoint, located to the south of Rafah city, with an IED. Amaq claimed that everyone who was aboard the vehicle was either killed, or wounded.
The Egyptian military and security forces conduct operations against ISIS’ remaining cells in the Sinai Peninsula on a regular basis. The terrorist group has been waging an insurgency in the strategic region since 2014.
