On October 1, explosions and clashes were reported at Charikar city, the provincial capital of the eastern Afghan province of Parwan.

The first explosion was the result of an attack with an improvised explosive device that targeted a vehicle of the Taliban in the PD2 district of Charikar. Two fighters of the Afghan group were wounded in the attack.

Sources close to the Taliban said that the group arrested two alleged members of ISIS-Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) after the attack. The terrorists provided the group with the location of an ISIS-K hideout in PD3 district.

As Taliban fighters were raiding the hideout, a large explosion rocket Charikar. Bilal Karimi, deputy of Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, told TOLO News that a second hideout was later found in a nearby area. Taliban fighters clashed with terrorists holding out in both hideouts.

According to Afghan sources, four Taliban fighters and three terrorists of ISIS-K were killed as a result of the explosion and the clashes in PD3.

While ISIS-K presence in Parwan is not a surprise, it appears to be larger than what was thought before. The terrorist group influence appears to be expanding all over Afghanistan.

Today, ISIS-K is the main challenge facing the Taliban who has been working nonstop to tighten its grip on Afghanistan. The terrorist group’s threat will not likely end soon.
