On August 26, the Afrin Liberation Forces (ALF) announced that its fighters carried out a series of attacks on the Turkish military and its proxies in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo between August 17 and 23.

The Kurdish guerilla group has been active in the northern Aleppo countryside since March of 2018, when Afrin area was occupied by Turkish forces.

In a statement, the ALF listed its recent attacks as follows:

On August 17, a sabotage operation conducted by the Şehîd Avesta unit in Qurbe village in Afrin resulted in the death of a Turkish-affiliated commander known as “Abu Dojana” along with two militants.

On August 21, a Turkish-backed militant was killed and two others were wounded in a sabotage operation in Ashrafiya neighborhood in Afrin city.

On August 22 and 23, two operations targeted Turkish forces in the village of Kafir Khuash near the town Azaz. Two militants were killed and seven others were wounded in the first attack, while three militants were killed and three others were wounded in the second.  A number of fortified positions were destroyed.

Last week, the ALF claimed that its fighters killed five Turkish service members and two militants in a series of attacks carried out between August 14 and 19. The group’s claims remain without a confirmation.

The Kurdish group stepped up its attacks in the last two weeks. These attacks may have been meant as a response to recent Turkish drone strikes on northern and northeastern Syria.
