On May 5, Syrian authorities showcased loads of weapons and ammunition which were recently uncovered in the southern governorate of Daraa.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, the Syrian military and security forces found the weapons and ammunition during search operations in the eastern countryside of Daraa and in the area of al-Lujat.
The seized weapons and ammunition included:
- Seven Soviet or Bulgarian-made Konkurs anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs);
- Four Soviet or Bulgarian-made Fagot ATGMs:
- Three Soviet-made Malyutka ATGMs;
- One Soviet-made Strela-2 man-portable air-defense system;
- Seven Soviet-made RPG-22 anti-tank rocket-propelled grenades;
- Four rounds for the Czechoslovakian-made RPG-75 anti-tank weapon.

Some of these weapons, like the Malyutka missiles, were likely stolen by rebels from Syrian military depots in the early years of the war. However, others, like the RPG-75 rounds, were supplied by the US and its allies to the rebels.
Syrian authorities have been working nonstop for more than two years now to uncover and collect any remaining heavy weapons in the southern region.
