Following negotiations in Moscow, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a ceasefire starting on October 10, midday local time, for humanitarian purposes: for the exchange of prisoners, as well as the bodies of the dead.
The first diplomatic contact between Armenian and Azerbaijani officials took place in Moscow on October 9.
The negotiations between Armenia’s Foreign Minister, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, and his Azeri counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, were mediated by Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov. Armenia said it was open to a ceasefire, while Azerbaijan, supported by Turkey, has made a conditional on the Armenian forces’ withdrawal from Nagorno-Karabakh.
After more than 10 hours of negotiations, the two sides signed a ceasefire agreement:
“A ceasefire is declared from 12:00 on October 10, 2020 for humanitarian purposes for the exchange of prisoners of war and other detained persons and the bodies of the dead, mediated and in accordance with the criteria of the International Committee of the Red Cross,” Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, stated.
Concrete parameters of the ceasefire have not been provided yet.
According to Russia’s Foreign Minister, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to begin substantive negotiations of a peaceful settlement of a military conflict over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh that erupted on September 27. The talks will be mediated by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s (OSCE) Minsk Group of international negotiators.
The signing of ceasefire agreement is an important step towards the lasting solution to the territorial dispute. However, a political solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is unlikely to be reached in the near future. Azerbaijan, which receives large political and military support from Turkey, announced new captured territories North of Jebrayil, at a time when negotiations continued in Moscow. Recent military successes as well as great Turkish support make today’s ceasefire unfavorable for Baku. The pause will likely be used for troops redeployment and reinforcement of the military equipment supply.
i see.. another defeat for the Turkish regime then.. they wanted the war to continue and take back NK..but after the pathetic progress of the invading Azeris they will have to accept their defeat in a cease fire…like they did with their mavi vatan …they retreated from there as well after getting humiliated by the Greek forces.
Not to talk about Sparta where they also got humiliated.
I would not be that sure.
re yani Cyprus war I was there watching Greek army the way they were running away from Turkish Army I witness all this so stop talking bullshit.. https://media4.giphy.com/media/HmCGTfgQy1dYI/giphy.gif https://media4.giphy.com/media/HmCGTfgQy1dYI/giphy.gif
The problem with Greeks is that they have created a lot of mythology about their fighting prowess dating back to Macedonian and Thracian era, just like the Zionists propaganda since they defeated tribal Arabs, which is nothing to brag about. Recent Greek history is abysmal record of conquest by the Turks.
let me guess another turk troll? or just someone that hasnt read a book in his life?
You should learn History. Things never stay the same forever… Turkey might have had victory, but was also defeated many times, by Persian, Greeks (Alexander, you remember?). Also by Romans, …. We are talking about something worse than little Cyprus…
Historically every empire has lost to someone and harking on revisionist history bears no resemblance to current geo-political trends in Eurasia in particular, post the fall of USSR. Turkey is a rising power that went into decline in early part of last century and is now reasserting itself as the pax-Americana has crumbled as well. These conflicts are harbinger of great competition for influence and resources.
btw there was not a Greek army there…
Hi, sorry I think you’re wrong. The Turkish are so enthusiastic thinking their “New Ottoman Empire” is on, that they might no be likely to step back. They seek to revenge the Sèvres treaty humiliation, but the only problem is MONEY!!
Turkey is bankrupted, its currency worth peanuts, tourism has stopped, and people there are getting bored of Erdogan bestiality…War does’nt provide jobs and prosperity…Big problems coming soon for Erdoguy
so you agree with me… all this warmongering is making things worse for turkey
As member of NATO, Turkey may well be getting, secretly of course, supoort from USA for any anti Russia or its allies activities. Military activity and USA military base rental fees may one of Turkey’s main sources of income. As you say tourisme is way down due to Corona.
Artskin really does not get much to say.
This ceasefire is welcomed.
But it won’t last long.

It will be a particularly bloody day:

Finally someone listened to my advises, and entered into a dialogue to stop the violence for freedom.
yes tommy they listen to you now please tell armenians to give whole n-k to azeris
Usually humanitarian ceasefire is like 24-48hours. But given that the area is so small, it can be shorter than that.
That is a safe assumption. Azerbaijani military has performed better than most expectations and they will pursue this conflict as both the regime and its main ally Turkey has put their prestige on the line. It that part of the world, a backdown now would spell the end of Mr. Aliyev.
It does seem like if Armenia doesn’t commit to concessions any time soon, Aliyev will face the internal pressure to renew the military campaign with no diplomatic stop. And history shows that internal pressure always prevails over the international pressure.
War won’t stop.
It is reported that Seven Moons and Aces found a hotel room together in Azerbajain.
The maids stayed away because of all the noise coming from Motel room n Baku :)
You’re wrong voice coming from your sister room she can’t take it hurting her too much
And Mustafa Mehmet was also in Baku at the same time.
Turks have been known to do this :)
This ceasefire is untenable and will benefit the Azerbaijani forces to regroup and rearm. They have used over a third of the Harop. It also provides the battered Armenians an opportunity to vacate NK. Armenian morale is low and they are using 16 year old conscripts. The body language and rhetoric of Mr. Aliyev does not indicate that this ceasefire can hold.
i doubt if the “ceasefire” will hold
It won’t.
The Azeris have posted 4 videos in the last 4 hours with UAV bombing. The ceasefire seems to have given them new energy.
Azerbaijani President gives Armenia ‘last chance’ to withdraw from Karabakh or face severe consequences.
They should accept the offer.
But they won’t.
That would be the logical approach, they may try to internationalize this conflict by dragging in Russia, which would be a folly. The western media is anti-Turkish and stoking “religious” angle, however, this in reality is based on an opportunist and illegal land grab by Armenia in the post USSR chaos and then the region became a rivalry arena between Russia, Turkey and to some extent a weaker Iran. Armenia is counting on western assistance as well. I would be prudent for Azerbaijan to go all in and try to wind it up soon as a war of attrition will not help anyone.
1. My parents were born in this part of the world. The parties to the conflict have a bitter history.
2. If the fighting continues in the occupied territories, I do not see Russia actively intervening.
3. I think there will eventually be a diplomatic solution. I believe in the form of exchanging territories. Something like Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia and southern Armenia to Azerbaijan.
Armenia wanted to “Kosovolize” N-K conflict. But it mis-calculated badly.
Kosovo is in the heart of Europe. Armenia is at the corner of EuriAsia. Strategically not important at all.
Kosovo is in the background of Bosnia & Herzegovina vs. Serbia who West considered aggressor. They wanted to weaken Serbia because of the strong relationship between Serbia vs. Russia. But N-K is in the background of South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Donetsk, Luhansk etc. Those are mostly pro Russia and anti-establishment movements. Of course West is against it. This is why Armenian struggle with N-K does not receive any support from the West.
Serbia was counting on Russia support. But Russia was weak. Russia did not want to go against NATO. But Turkey is a member of NATO. So NATO is entirely out of the question to help Armenia. Turkey has been very resolute and assertive in its support of Azerbaijan. Russia has no interest to go after Turkey for N-K issue that illegal occupation.
This is why Armenia has grossly mis-calculated its position over the past 30 years.
A ceasefire was not in the interest of Armenia. It was Russia who imposed the ceasefire on it yesterday evening after 10 hours of negotiations between Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia’s foreign ministers. All signed a ceasefire agreement, with the effect from today at 12:00. The agreement had 4 main terms. 1.Establishing a humanitarian ceasefire so that the bodies can be gathered from the battlefield and the hostages can be exchanged. 2.Exact terms for ceasefire will be determined. 3.Both Azerbaijan and Armenia pledge to continue negotiations with the mediation of OECD. 4.The Sides pledge to continue the work in a negotiation format. According to the term #2 it was agreed to proceed according to the Madrid Principles – first – armenian occupational forces were to leave 5 of 7 occupied regions around NK, after that leave the 2 remaining regions and the NK to which will be returned to Azerbaijan.
But immediately after implementation Armenia resumed its rocket attacks on multiple Azeri civilian cities. A ceasefire is not in the interest of the current Armenian government. If a ceasefire is established then the bodybags will go back to Armenia and its people will revolt against Pashinian, for loosing the territories and loosing armenian lives.
My advice to Armenian: Take the oportunity to URGENTLY buy drones guys.
Armenia doesn’t have the money to buy UAVs, they expect free help from other countries like Russia, US and EU
All those countries are deep in debt. Only China and Japan get the money to spend. But they won’t save Armenia.
Artskins do not get money. No one will sell drones to them….
They only have rocks and babies to sell.
Russia gifted some time to Armenia but results will same
“The signing of ceasefire agreement is an important step towards the lasting solution to the territorial dispute. However, a political solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is unlikely to be reached in the near future. ”
The above is completely wrong.
The ceasefire agreement is only a pause. It is not an important step towards the lasting solution to the territorial dispute.
For 30 years, there has never any political solution. So there won’t be any more political solution. Only military solution can solve this territorial dispute. Azerbaijan knows this really well. All other parties know this well too.
Fighting will continue. More men will die. More civilians will die too. It is the sad fact.
Armenians have to negotiate a settlement, or they will continue to lose ground. No world power will save them.
This is actually perfect timing. Trump’s USA is busy for his election bid. No time for anyone else. Armenians are just buying time for possible Biden to save them…. More empty dreams.
This feels like the ceasefire agreement Assad signed with HTS so many times. Each time, it was just a pause for people to find and bury the dead. Get more ammunitions to the front and repair some military equipment.
War will continue until Artskins pull their troops out of N-K. Of course those stubborn Artskins won’t do it. They say N-K belongs to Armenia. It is ours. Mr. Pashinyan is yelling and crying.
i agree with you war will continue but i think Azeris will loose more lands by the end of it
Russia is wasting time and giving wings to NATO; it only has to force the two countries to observe the truce in a truly pragmatic way, declaring an air exclusion zone for the two countries and the one who does not respect it to bombard. Cancel the site from where Disrespect without hesitation, and this will be the only way to guarantee and be a fair and responsible guarantor. Realyyy
