The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced late on May 30 that its air-defense systems had shot down three Turkish combat drones.

According to the LNA, the drones were shot down near the town of Bani Waled, which is located more than 140 km to the southeast of the capital of Tripoli.

“Air-defense systems targeted a Turkish drone in the early hours of Saturday morning and were able to shoot it down near the town of Bani Waled,

Two drones, which attempted to attack civilian sites in the town of Bani Waled in the late hours of Saturday evening, were also targeted,” a statement by the LNA reads.

The LNA didn’t provide any videos or photos of the downed drones, which may have fallen in areas controlled by the Government of National Accord (GNA).

The drones were likely shot down by the UAE-supplied Pantsir-S1 short-range air-defense systems. A number of systems of this type were spotted at Bani Waled Airport in the last few days. Russian private military contractors are amassing in the town now.

Turkish combat drones boosted the capabilities of GNA forces and inflicted heavy losses on the LNA. However, their activities decreased recently. The LNA claims that this happened because many drones were shot down.
