On December 17th, China’s first domestic-made aircraft carrier the Shandong officially entered service in the South China Sea. The ceremony took place at a naval base in Sanya on the southern island of Hainan during a ceremony attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping. This is the 2nd aircraft carrier in the Chinese Navy.
Power projection into S China sea and Indian ocean.
But aircraft are launched with very limited payload.
Maybe not (if Russia sell SU-57 to China)
They can by extra engines and put them in FC-31 (J-31).
They can create naval version of J-31 with the powerful 2nd stage Russian engine ( with better ratio ) have short take off thus more weapons loaded.
Of course they can try to copy them.
But must learn first how to make good engine copy since they still have problem to copy Russian engines due to their complexity.
West Pacific. 1st, and more importantly, 2nd island chain.
It will be a sitting duck if it ever sails away from the mainland.
Today’s navies don’t need such expensive boats, perhaps except the USA.
It was necessary in WW2 times when Japan carriers sailed to Pearl Harbor or Midway.
Today this is not necessary. There are missiles doing the same job cheaper & safer.
Carriers exist to project power from strong countries over weak countries. Their purpose is to bomb brown countries, not to fight another Battle of Leyte Gulf with a power that is a military equal. Those days are over. The moment WW3 happens all carriers everywhere will head back straight to port and not come out until the war is over. Or they get nuked together with these ports. China wants to get into the global power projection game, so like the US it needs some carriers.
a little too late there, small eyes! US Navy already has 11 nuclear powered super carriers! while you little midgets only have barely 2. Israel will soon be building up to 5 aircraft carriers by 2035.
Size of that part of Palestine called “Israel” is not bigger than aircraft carrier.
How can Israel build 5 more Israels?!
The only need of aircraft carrier for Israeli’s is to pack your bags and go back to Khazaria – Georgia
