‘31 For 1,000’: New Exchange Of Bodies Reveals Ukraine's Heavy Losses

Ukraine announced on October 23 that it had received the bodies of 1,000 of its soldiers from Russia as part of a “repatriation operation.”

The country’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said in a statement that investigators from law enforcement and expert institutions of the Interior Ministry will conduct examinations and identification procedures for the repatriated bodies.

It also expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance in the operation.

Russian State Duma Deputy Shamsail Saraliev, who represents the parliamentary coordination group on issues related to the military operation, later revealed that Russia received the remains of 31 of its soldiers in return.

Saraliev stated that the exchange took place on a “31 for 1,000” basis, something that was completely ignored in the Ukrainian statement.

This marks the thirteenth such exchange this year. Last September, Russia handed over the bodies of 1,000 soldiers to Ukraine while receiving 24 of its own.

Russia returned around 14,000 bodies of Ukrainian servicemen to Kyiv this year only, while receiving the remains of less than 350 of its soldiers in return. The difference reveals a striking gap in the rate of losses between the two sides, which have been fighting for more than three years now.

Prior to the latest exchange the general ratio of bodies exchanged was reportedly around 6 to 1, meaning the remains of six Ukrainian soldiers were exchanged for the remains of a single Russian soldier.

Earlier this year, Ukraine attempted to stall the exchange process, refusing to take delivery of the remains of its own soldiers for several days and only accepting after facing pressure from the media.

This was seen as an attempt by Ukraine to hide its losses. Financial motives were, however, even stronger. Kiev was apparently attempting to dodge paying compensation to the families of the soldiers. As long as the soldiers remain classified as missing in action, the government is not obligated to make any payments.

It is unclear how many bodies of Ukrainian soldiers are still being held by Russia, but with the military advancing in several areas, the number is certainly growing by the day.

those people running ukraine are very shifty – by hiding deaths as missing in action they know they will never need to pay compensation. they know ukraine will collapse and have no $ and/or the whole country will vote to join russia in future referendums. this way they can funnel as much $ as possible into arms to weaken russia to ultimately plunder it, plus make their foreign weapons industries insanely profitable. pure evil.
