The second group of 1,000 Syrian servicemen has completed its retraining under the guidance of Russian instructors in a training camp in Damascus province and replenished the Fifth Legion of the Syrian Army, created last year and considered to be one of the most trained units of the Syrian Armed Forces. During the retraining, soldiers have studied the tactics of conducting modern combat in conditions close to real.

It is still unknown where the second group of the Fifth Legion will be sent. But the first detachment, which completed its training in late 2016, currently fights against terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group in the east of Homs province, including the area of Palmyra city.

At the moment, the Russian program of retraining of Syrian military answers expectations. Servicemen, who completed the training course, have advanced combat capabilities and operate more rationally in combat conditions.

The formation of the Fifth Legion of volunteers was announced by the General Command of the Syrian Army and the country’s Armed Forces in late November 2016. The army called on citizens, who would like to become volunteers and take part in “eliminating terrorism” on the territory of Syria, to visit the recruitment application centers, opened in various provinces, and join the Fifth Legion.

As it was reported at that time, the volunteers, who wanted to become part of the Legion, must have been Syrian men above 18 year old, who were not conscripts or deserters. The Legion also was ready to accept volunteers, who had finished their military service, and state employees under one-year renewable contracts. According to the Command, state employees would keep all rights and benefits, which they received in their workplaces, in addition to regular amounts of money that they would receive from the Fifth Legion.

Half of them look like they’re in their 50s or 60s.

Thegr8rambino

better than nothing

Mikronos

Home Guard

Hisham Saber

Half of the cowardly Israeli army are exchange students from Brooklyn New York….so what. They are patriots fighting and dying for their country. My hats off to them. Its better to die standing up, than live on your knees.

Behold a Pale Horse

Dad’s army. They must be short of young men. Oh yes, they all ran away to Germany to get benefits and live in tower blocks. The rest joined the FSA tempted by the CIA poison dollars.

Fair play to the one’s that stayed. I hope the Russians taught them a thing or two.

Thegr8rambino

you betchurass they did ;)

Aung Naing

That is so sad. They hae serious shortage of man power.I wonder why they do not invite China yet.100,000 soldiers would be there to clean up isis rats.

Solomon Krupacek

look, under assad live 10 million people. they should not have shortage.
stalin had also problems with manpower when nazis attacked. but he was a man and solved the problem.

Sham Crown

Stalin won only because of helped by bad weather and wrong german strategy

Solomon Krupacek

this was fat not enough. he won, because transfered the industry in and behind ural and mobilized the people. without army he could not teke berlin. there was not bat strategy of germans, no general winter.

Jasminko Grdic

IT was bad weather. First do you know that Barbarosa started more then 2 months later then it was planed because of wet Spring in East EU. They needed to wait to dry the land to use the Tanks. This time was crtical to take Moscow. They was 50 km from Moscow in the start of WInter, the same goes to Stalingrad.
In this 2 months Staljin have already have a full production of T34 ready in Ural that waited …. With the Slow progress came that Hitler made some very bad decisions and Tactical failuire…
But who know how it would be today IF IS IF

Solomon Krupacek

the weather was also important. but without transfer of industry there would be no red army, no weapons.
otherwise, thes were in end of summer 50 kms from moscow, only hiutler removed troops to kiew. ig hitler did not make this stupid move, woscow would fall. there was no defense and also the government was already partially removed.

Lyubomir

Uuuuuu preach him brother, give him some lesson :D:D:D People needs to listen your comments, you know history very well.

China having multi billions investments in gulf arab states but not in iran or syria..wake up, you liked russia just shifted to siberia or mongolia

Hisham Saber

Wrong, China has more investments with Russia and Iran than with the Gulf Arabs. Plus, Iran, Russia, Syria, Iraq are all part of the One Road, One Belt initiative. China is paying for all Syria’s war effort.

Espinaca

Really?
China is financing?
This is interesting, as some rumours are going round that Assad may be led to bankruptcy with endless war…

Daniel Castro

Do not underestimate older generations, they’re probably more fit to the job than the young ones. The sad thing is that every time one of them dies it will be one less qualified worker, one less wise man, and more orphans going around without their fathers.

Panthera Pardus

On the long run is an advantage for Assad – many potential deserters and some truly ISIS supporters are now out of Syria to be breast-fed by “mutti” Merkel – once the most motivated and determined take back Syria then they own the field.

Syria itself has got oil and good weather for agriculture – now with russian weapons and support they can entrench and the plan of the goat-fuckers of Saudi Arabia is foiled.

Wahid Algiers

These good guys are Elite Soldiers now, not part of the regular troops.
And those combatants you have to win and ask before.
But you are right: more than 80 percents of the refugees in Germany are cowardly young Syrians walkeing along there with mobile phones, taking always the same way from the shopping center to the baracks or wasting the time on public places in the sun.

Valery Grigoryev

Zig Heil?

Werner Knöllermann

No no, that’s wrong – Sieg Heil!

FlorianGeyer

Yes I agree.

ISIS and AlNusra do the Zog Heil Salute.

El Diablo

Young men probably are conscripted. So volounters are older.

Solomon Krupacek

deserted

Thegr8rambino

awesome!!! i hope they make a big difference in the war effort, and as many as possible survive

Guy

Why the Nazi salutes?

MeMadMax

They’re doing the communist “fist pump” as well…

Maybe they just want to cover all denominations? Who knows.
^.^ >_>

Samuel Boas

It is NOT a Nazi salute. It is a roman salute.

Guy

A salute that was used by the Nazis and when used these days only brings about the thought of Nazis. So I ask again, why would they bother doing it?

Samuel Boas

They do not give the salute because it is used by Nazis. It is very common in Arabic countries to use it. It is a Roman salute, a lot of countries are influenced by the Roman history.

NeoLeo

Well, they are “5th LEGION”, maybe they’ll send them to Palmyra (ancient roman city)

Samuel Boas

They do not care because it was used by Germany. They do not do it because they did it.

goingbrokes

It is a good salute and it does not belong to the german Third Reich. Just like the swastika does not belong to the Third Reich or the regular hexagram does not belong to Israel. Those two simply appropriated ancients symbols for their own use.

Behold a Pale Horse

The Nazi salute was a Roman Salute.

Julius Meinel

Yes, they look old indeed. One has to keep in mind that
Assad himself acknowledged the shortage of military personally (at least at infantry
level) since about 2015; no wonder. He lost about 80,000 of the career officers
and soldiers since the beginning of the war, many more able bodied young’s have
chosen to flee the country rather the fight.
Interestingly enough, the few videos I have seen about Syrian civil life
for the past few years, seem to document quite a few relatively young men going
about their normal life rather than being drafted and send to the front. It is a
well known fact that many that can afford chose to bribe the military
authorities to dodge conscription rather than fight.

Anyway, I would not discount the old men brigade as being
useless. Their motivational factor and patriotism might more than make up for
their lack of agility. After all, the modern wars are not about who’s running
faster on the battle field. Last but not least, some of them have must have reckoned
that death on the battle field is more worthy than an imminent death of old age
and disease. Not a bad thinking.

Thegr8rambino

exactly, but i wonder why so many young men chose to flee than fight? why did they not care that much about their country being invaded? i tell you if i was a syrian i would have stayed and fought

goingbrokes

In the beginning the jihadist descended on the country with tremendous violence, and the army was unable to respond effectively to the attack. Huge numbers simple fled beyond the borders to save their lives. In Turkey and probably Jordan the young men found that they were under intense recruitment from FSA and wahhabi forces and if they did not join they were not allowed to leave the camps and return to Syria. There were huge numbers in Turkey. When the political situation became clear that the country was under invasion Erdogan “released” huge numbers of these refugees to Europe (Merkel co-operated in this act of war) precisely so that they could not return and help their government. It is documented that in Europe many of these men’s documents are “lost” so now they cannot return because of that. In Europe there are so many of them that they have become unpopular and no one wants to hear their story. This was the plan all along.
As for staying and fighting – in the beginning many Syrian military believed that it was a genuine turning about they joined the jihadists. After seen what they were really like they protested. From memory Al Nusra executed 115 officers that had expressed unhappiness of how Syrians were being treated. The rest fled to Lebanon. We can be sure that any Syrian fighting age men in surrounding countries are under intense scrutiny and every effort is being made to keep them away from Syria.

CyricRenner

General Amnesty programs have meant that as long as they lay down arms, they are are free to return to Syrian society. Are they being held prisoner in Europe ? Why can’t they return and try and rebuild the country ?

Now the war has turned against them a lot of the early deserters have either returned to the army of gone on to greener pastures.

Its a minor miracle that Assad has survived this onslaught. With the aid of Russia and Iran, I doubt it would have been possible.

RichardD

Without foreign support the regime change operation would have succeeded, to the detriment of the Syrian people. It was pretty obvious that Syria was just a stepping stone and that Iran, Russia and China would have been next. They are helping themselves by helping Syria.

Thegr8rambino

What do you mean under intense scrutiny? Why can’t they just hop a plane or boat or something and go back?

goingbrokes

All Syrian males in refugee camps are being watched. Any groups trying to make a run for the border will be intercepted and brought back. As for the open ocean/desert option, unless you know a safe route to government held areas you are likely to get shot dead by the jihadists.
For Cyric (below) They are not officially prisoners in Europe, but try travelling to Syria without papers! Good luck! Europe has in place draconian sanctions against Syrian government (an act of war) and you can be confident they will not allow fighting age males to travel there under virtually any conditions. Their (unstated) job is to keep as many Syrian males as possible away from the Syrian Army.

Thegr8rambino

That’s so fucking annoying I wish all the people who put the sanctions on Syria just die already

Wahid Algiers

Those who fled were mostly Sunnis, lazy and not well educated. Partly the mud of the old society now begging for some benefits in Germany at the hanging tits of Mutti (means mother) Angie Merkel.

Thegr8rambino

A friend of mine left Syria I think around the time the war started and lives in Denmark now. I like him but I feel he was very cowardly doing that. If I were him I would have stayed and fought

Hisham Saber

What does Sunni have to do with this? The vast majority of the SAA are Sunni.

Stop supporting discord/fitna. There is no denominational divide in Syria, that’s all a Zionist plot.

Hisham Saber

The Syrian Government has implemented ‘Partial Mobilization’. its not the quantity of soldiers, but the quality. And older men are more patriotic and wiser. Plus, they can be logistics personnel to free up other younger soldiers.

A full mobilization would cause the Syrian state to not function properly.

abuqahwa

Ba’ath Party organization, the logo is everywhere including the left arm patches. The poster to the right of the saluting dais reads ” Ba’ath Fighters (Combat) Brigade, Fifth Legion. No doubt majority are State employees and/or Party members volunteering from their desk jobs – probably better serving with their local National Defense Force units.

pao

Regarding lack of youth… Assad had said in interviews that encouraging “normal” life (as much as possible, such as university study) in government areas is very important to Syrian culture and future. If all the young were killed off in war, what would be left of the country. Agree or disagree, interesting.

Kirov

I see a lot of old men. Where are the youth of this country!?

Valery Grigoryev

Run away to Europe:)

Solomon Krupacek

These iron hats. Good against rain.

alexis

Its shame. The older men as new recruits. Young people are on the journey in
Europa as immigrants and their fathers must fight for independence of Syria…

RichardD

The Syrians, Russians, Iranians, Lebanese, and probably no small amount of Chinese money, are making an historic contribution to the betterment of our civilization in the face of Ziocon evil and their NATO and GCC partners in crime. With Russian air cover, training and modern weapons, these old soldiers will probably be very effective.

Monied Jews and Israeli Zionists are a huge problem for humanity, not all of them, but a lot of them. Something needs to be done to correct this blight facing our planet. There’s plenty of blame to go around, but these trouble makers are a disproportionate part of the problem.

Hisham Saber
RichardD

Thank you, they’ve threatened to kill me more than once. And if I make it to Gaza to work on the peace process they may try. Because they don’t want peace.

Hisham Saber

My friend, if you do go to Gaza, be very careful. They got snipers targeting civilians and bulldozers running over people like the late, heroic Rachel Corrie, may she rest in peace.

These nefarious people have never been at peace with the peoples around them for the last 3000 years. They have been exiled and/or expelled 109 times from 250 A.D. Carthage through 1948 A.D. Arab countries.

Truly humanities burden. I say put them on space shuttles with enough fuel to get them past Orion’s Belt. But I fear if that was done, Alien races would attack us for such a terrible thing and burden unleashed on them.

RichardD

If there’s any truth to the stories about the more depraved elements of Judaism being involved in Satanic human sacrifice torture murder, ritual cannibalism, pedophile activity of the worst kind, and other horrific crimes against humanity. Carried out by the the same criminal control freak Jews, during their occult Kabbalah ceremonies conjuring up Jinn and demons, who are responsible for so much human suffering and deprivation on this planet. Then they may already be involved with bad ETs/EDs. Which may help explain why they’ve been able to get away with what they have for so long. Some of the aggressive practitioners of Jewish black arts reportedly have their own demons who appear to them and work with them on their nefarious plots.

There’s a saying that people don’t hate Jews for their race or religion, they hate them for the evil that they do over and over and over again.

Yes they’ve been big trouble makers from the beginning. Since they attacked the Palestinian’s ancestor’s non Jewish city of Jerusalem, and before. Their ideology of master slave apartheid domination is a central theme of their faith. And they practice it in their relations with non Jews in violation of the golden rule. They’re a corrupting and debasing element of society, and use their inroads into politics, finance and the media to cause problems world wide. Which is why they keep getting kicked out of everyplace that they’ve been.

Hisham Saber

Brilliant summation. Thank you my friend in struggle. For we are in the company of great men, throughout human history who have called it how it really was in regards to this tribe, these followers of the prince of light, Lucifer.

RichardD

Hisham,

There’s a difference between Judaism the religion, which is flawed like Christianity and Islam, but has merit, and the Zionist Jew world order international crime syndicate that misuses, corrupts and hides behind Judaism. Jesus called them the synagogue of Satan. And they’re a huge problem for humanity with their infiltration and corruption of the US that has turned it into Dr. Evil to their Israel mini me. They’re a threat to US national security and their agents in the US are enemies of the state.

Dragos Ionut

The old guys are much wiser and cautious, and if they have learned how to properly organize an ambush, the Mossad/CIA puppets, the ISIS bastards, will be in for a world of hurt.
The old soldiers will never surrender to the enemy. They know only too well what will happen if they do.
And since they can not outrun the young soldiers on the opposite side, they will stand their ground to the end.
Do not underestimate an old soldier. He doesn’t have much left to lose and if you do, it might be the last mistake you will ever make.

Heil, Legionnaires !
